The 2016 Siggies P'ayakentsut a success!

    March 18, 2016

The 2016 Siggies P'ayakentsut was a success this year.  Saturday was warm and sunny with close to 420 skiers participating in the loppet.  Sunday threatened to rain for the kids tournament but amazingly it snowed instead. A total of 76 kids (aged 5-9) and about 35 (aged 10-13) showed up despite the inclement weather.

The kids tournament featured a Mad Dash which is always a favorite with the kids earning a ribbon for 1st, 2nd and Finisher.  Some were lucky enough to be presented with their ribbon from Brittany Webster (Olympian from 2010/2014) who was on hand to share her enthusiasm with the sport.

The dog sled races comprised of three teams competing by pulling one of their team members on a sled.  This year, the terrain park featured jumps, a slalom course, hoops and bicycle bumps which proved to be a hit.

The final station was a relay race where teams tried their coordination at the 3 legged race, the 3 legged scooter race, and the chariot race (one skier pulling another skier with a rope that goes around the lead skier).  By lunch time, everyone was cold, wet and hungry.  Warm hot chocolate, hot dogs, and chilli for the volunteers along with prizes for the kids brought smiles to everyone's faces.  Thanks again CCC for supporting this event.
