To improve the minimum standard of coaching for developing athletes and better prepare our sport system to meet minimum coaching requirements at important competitions such as the BC Winter Games and Canada Winter Games, the following standards will come into effect in January 2012, and January 2014 (highlighted in green). Note that the new policies refer to the new NCCP system only. Information on minimum requirements for coaches with training in the previous NCCP system, and equivalency options for transfering from the previous system to the new system will be made available at a later date.
Current Minimum Mandatory Coaching Qualifications
Coaches must be active NCCP Community Coaches "in training" in order to supervise, instruct or coach ski activities for children six years of age and younger, or assist with the supervising, instructing or coaching of ski activities for children six to nine years of age; and
Coaches must be active, "trained" NCCP Community Coaches in order to supervise, instruct or coach ski activities for children six to nine years of age, or assist with the supervising, instructing or coaching of ski activities for children nine to sixteen years of age; or
Coaches must have completed the NCCP Level 1 Technical course in order to supervise, instruct or coach ski activities for children under the age of 16.
The policy that will take effect on January 01/12
Coaches must be active NCCP Community Coaches "in training" in order to supervise, instruct or coach ski activities for children six years of age and younger, or assist with the supervising, instructing or coaching of ski activities for children six to nine years of age; and
Coaches must be active, "trained" NCCP Community Coaches in order to supervise, instruct or coach ski activities for children six to nine years of age, or assist with the supervising, instructing or coaching of ski activities for children nine to sixteen years of age.
Coaches must be active NCCP CCI coaches "in training"* in order to supervise, instruct or coach ski activities for children nine to sixteen years of age.
The policy that will take effect on January 01/14
Coaches must be active NCCP Community Coaches "in training" in order to supervise, instruct or coach ski activities for children six years of age and younger, or assist with the supervising, instructing or coaching of ski activities for children six to nine years of age;
Coaches must be active, "trained" NCCP Community Coaches in order to supervise, instruct or coach ski activities for children six to nine years of age, or assist with the supervising, instructing or coaching of ski activities for children nine to sixteen years of age;
Coaches must be active NCCP CCI coaches "in training"* in order to supervise, instruct or coach ski activities for children nine to twelve years of age; and
Coaches must be active, "trained" NCCP CCI coaches** in order to supervise, instruct or coach ski activities for children twelve sixteen years of age.
