Background

Background to National Ski Team:
Having been a core member of the National Ski Team over the last eight years as a junior and senior racer, Brent achieved his Olympic lifelong dream on home snow in 2010 when he competed for Canada in Vancouver-Whistler. Brent has worked very hard in his continued quest to be a full-time member of the World Cup squad. A regular podium contender each time he hits the start line on the Haywood NorAm circuit, Brent qualified for his first World Junior Championships in the first-ever 30-kilometre race he entered as a junior, and has never looked back. Brent’s goals for this year are to score World Cup points in both distance and sprint races, and to have a top-10 finish on the World Cup.

Introduction to Cross-Country Skiing:
Brent grew up in Calgary where both of his parents were avid Nordic skiers. His parents got him involved with the Jackrabbits program when hew was five at Foothills Nordic Ski Club where he met his current coach, Eric de Nys. Like many young Canadians, Brent had a desire to play hockey, but he too got hooked on his parent’s passion and chose to pursue a career in cross-country skiing.

Personal:
Brent is slowly working on his post-secondary education at Athabasca University where he is focusing his curriculum on environmental studies and business. He will commit to school full-time when he retires from skiing.
