    • Thunderwolves win team relay events at OUA Nordic Skiing

      February 21, 2016

Following a successful opening to the 2016 OUA Nordic Skiing Championship yesterday, the Lakehead Thunderwolves showed no signs of slowing down as the team struck gold in both the men's and women's 3×2.7km Team Relay Classic on Saturday.

After winning gold in both the women's and men's 7.5km Interval Free events on Friday, the Thunderwolves added a pair of team relay titles in less than ideal weather conditions on Saturday morning at the Nakkertok Nordic Cross Country Ski Club.

Lakehead 1 (24:57.0), whose team included two of yesterday's men's 7.5km podium finishers – Gavin Shields (gold) and Chris Hamilton (silver) – as well as Geoff Way-Nee, triumphed in the 3×2.7km race to capture gold. Nipissing 1 (25:34.9) finished thirty-seven seconds behind in second place with Jordan Cascagnette – yesterday's 7.5km bronze medalist – completing the team's anchor leg. Lakehead 2 (26:10.0) concluded a successful men's team event for the Thunderwolves by finishing in third place.
