This year, six Academic Excellence bursaries were awarded to highlight superb academic results; twelve Academic and Athletic Support Bursaries were awarded to encourage the facilitation of sport and study (a significant challenge for high-performance athletes); and one Leadership Bursary was awarded to a student-athlete who demonstrated exceptional leadership and commitment to their teammates. As an additional bonus, the aluminum refinery’s employees were present to meet and congratulate bursary recipients.

“Alcoa is very proud to be able to contribute to the academic and athletic success of the next generation of athletes. We will be enthusiastically watching the progress of ‘our’ student-athletes, and all 2700 of us are behind them!” proclaimed Mr. Cyr.

Mr. Claude Chagnon, President of the Quebec Foundation for Athletic Excellence himself affirmed, “Alcoa should be satisfied and pleased with the fact that they are making a genuine difference in the lives of these athletes. The financial support in combination with the services that the Foundation provides, have a significant and positive impact on student-athletes’ success.
