The classic section saw Marit Bjoergen of Norway leading the way, along with her teammates Heidi Weng and Ingvild Oestberg. Sweden's Charlotte Kalla was always in the mix. With about 2 k to go Kalla decided enough was enough, and on one of the last major climbs set a searing pace that no one could match. Kalla skied to a fairly comfortable 8 second win. Bjoergen came through in 2nd with Krista Parmakoski of Finland in 3rd.

Ebba Andersson of Sweden, a first year senior came 4th, and Jess Diggins came through in 5th for the USA.
