    The second xc-ski event of the Youth Olympic Games took place today at Seefeld, Austria, a skating sprint.

    Maya MacIssac-Jones(M-J) qualified 15th behind Silje Theodorsen of Norway, to move on to the quarterfinals. Women's qualifying results  Matthew Saurette was 23rd in men's qualifying, as another Norwegian, Andreas Molden was the top men's qualifier. Men's qualifying results

    In the 3rd quarterfinal Maya M-J, was drawn against the #5 and #6 qualifiers from Austria and Switzerland and Chun Ma from China who had qualified only .3 seconds back of Maya. Maya qualified for the semis quite comfortably in 1st, with Faehndrich of Switzerland .3 seconds back in 2nd, well ahead of the rest of the pack.

    In the 2nd semi final Maya M-J finished 4th, 4 seconds off the pace of Sundling of Sweden.  At this time it is unclear if the gap was due to a fall or other issue on the course. Sundling ended up 2nd behind Theodorson of Norway. Maya finished a strong 8th overall.

    Matthew skied in the 5th and last quarterfinal for the men, with Holth from Norway, the #3 qualifier and Patrick Caldwell from the US. Marcus Ruus from Sweden won the heat with Matthew finishing a bit back at the tail end of the pack. It was a fast heat, allowing both Holth and Caldwell to qualify for the semis as the "lucky losers".

    The men's race was won by Molden of Norway and Caldwell of the US ended up 5th. Matthew ended up 29th overall.

    The races finish up on Saturday with the mixed relay, biathlon, cross country men and women.
