Ivan Babikov led the Canadian team today with a 30th place finish in the 15k classic event at the Nordic World Championships. The race was won by Matti Heikinen of Finland, with Eldar Roenning and Martin Johnsrud Sundby of Norway picking up the other 2 podium places. Another strong day for the Finns, who had 4 in the top 16, 3 in the top 10 and had similar results in the women's classic 10k.

With Alex Harvey and Devon Kershaw resting for the team sprint it was up to Ivan Babikov to lead the Canadian team.  Ivan's 30th place was a reasonable result for him as he searches for the form that he had at Whistler in 2010.

      Ivan Babikov
"30th place for me today, not great result but I'll take it, tough conditions for classic. two more races to go. Send me some energy please."

Len Valjas was the next Canadian in 48th, Stefan Kuhn 52nd and George Grey 57th, results that don't make the selection of a 4th Canadian for the distance relay any easier. (It would appear Devon, Alex and Ivan are sure bets at this time for a place on the relay.)

Kris Freeman was the top N. American in 24th, just ahead of Dario Cologna, who seems to be still recovering from his Tour de Ski performances.
