Canadian skiers had a great start to the World Championships as 5 Canadians qualified for the knockout rounds in the skating sprint.

Marit Bjoergen won the timetrial and the US's Kikkan Randall was 9th in this morning's event. Chandra Crawford led the Canadians in 23rd with Perianne Jones less than a second later in 24th, and Dasha Gaiazova was the final Canadian qualifier in 27th. Brooke Gosling did not start and US skiers Sadie Bjornstein and Jessica Diggans also made it to the knockout rounds.

      Women's Results:

In the men's race Jesper Modin of Sweden was the top qualifier, with Alex Harvey and Len Valjas continueing their good form from the weekend's Drammen World Cup with 9th and 21st place finishes. Devon Kershaw who has been recovering from a bout of flu 2 weeks ago, was just edged out of a qualifying position, finishing 31st and Stefan Kuhn was 51st.

Andrew Musgrave of Great Britain continued his strong season, qualifying 26th, and Andy Newell and Simeon Hamilton of the US (who bumped Devon out of the last qualifying spot) also made the next round. All in all a good start for the North American contingent at the Worlds.
