    Team Leader - Call for applications

    Event: 2017 FISU Winter Universiade, Almaty, Kazakhstan and 2019 FISU Winter Universiade, Krasnoyarsk, Russia

    Dates: January 29 to February 8, 2017 and March 2 to 12, 2019

    Details: Team Canada will consist of 16 individuals (12 athletes, 1 team leader, 1 head coach, 1 assistant coach/wax technician assistant and 1 dedicated wax technician). The Team Leader will be selected January 31, 2016 and the assistant coaches will be selected following the 2015/16 Ski Season.

    Team Leader Responsibilities:

    Pre-Universiade – Coordinate all aspects of team operations, in close consultation with CIS, including document collection, payments and team uniforms. Work closely with the Cross Country Canada Education Committee and assist where possible in their fundraising initiatives. Work closely with Cross Country Canada (CCC) in selecting the assistant coaches/technicians and wax technician.

    On-Site – Provide leadership in coaching and wax tech direction and complete administrative duties related to team participation at the Universiade.

    Post-Universiade – Complete and submit post-Universiade report to CIS and CCC.

    Funding: This opportunity is a self-funded event. Administration and organization of the trip will be facilitated through CIS International Programs. Attempts will be made by the CCC Education Committee to offset costs through fundraising.

    Applicants for the position:

    1. Must be committed to providing a positive international sporting experience for the athletes.
    2. Must be an active Cross Country Skiing coach and experience working with University level athletes.
    3. Must be able and willing to pay all of their own costs to participate in the Winter Universiades (approximately $4,000-$4,500 each Games). (Some funding may be available through the CCC Education Committee.)
    4. Must be available from approximately January 25 to February 9, 2017 and February 26 to March 13, 2019 for the Winter Universiades. Any pre-competition training camps are to be determined.
    5. Must be willing to communicate with the Team Canada athletes prior to the event to ensure that they are properly prepared for the 2017 and 2019 Winter Universiades, and monitor that training requirements are met.
    6. Must be prepared to participate in the selection process along with CCC, and communicate the selection process and eligibility requirements to potential athletes.

    Selection Dates: The team leader will be selected January 31, 2016 by the 2017 Cross Country Skiing Universiade Selection Committee. Only the selected candidate will be notified.
