Olympic great Veerpalu's doping ban extended

    Estonia's two-time Olympic nordic skiing champion Andrus Veerpalu has had his doping ban extended into 2015 by the sports' world governing body FIS because he breached the rules of the original sanction.

    The Estonian Ski Association said that Veerpalu's three-year ban would now run until January 21, 2015, instead of the original date of February 23, 2014.

    Veerpalu was found to have violated the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) code because he helped test skis for the Estonian team at a World Cup event in his hometown of Otepaa in January.

    The WADA code stipulates a banned athlete should not be involved in a team, a competition or other activity of the International Olympic Committee or a national sport federation in any way during the ban....
